About Care & Repair

North Ayrshire Care & Repair provides elderly home-owners and private sector tenants with access to a wide range of services which are aimed at enabling them to remain living in the comfort and safety of their own home.

The service is available to home-owners or private sector tenants who are aged 75 years and over or those who are over 60 years of age and are in receipt of Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance.  North Ayrshire Care & Repair which is funded by North Ayrshire Council and NHS Ayrshire & Arran has been operating since 2003.

The project is also supported by and receives practical and financial assistance from Strathclyde Police and Strathclyde Fire & Rescue Services.

Care & Repair deals with a wide range of issues which can impact upon an elderly persons well being and quality of life.

The type of assistance Care & Repair can provide includes;

  • Assistance with property repairs
  • Access to aids and adaptations to properties
  • Provision of Advice and Information services
  • Access to the Scottish Executive Central Heating Initiative
  • Implementation of Home Safety and Home Security measures
  • Review of benefit entitlements

Following an initial enquiry to Care & Repair a member of staff will visit to discuss the enquiry and if appropriate offer advice and assistance accordingly. The staff member will also advise on the range of services that may be of benefit which can be accessed through Care & Repair.

During the year 2006/07 Care & Repair received 528 enquiries and provided assistance with:

  • Securing Local Authority Grant Funding to enable 76 clients to complete major repair works to their properties.
  • Carried out over 1,000 Small Repairs
  • Improving home security in 135 properties
  • Installing ten year lithium battery smoke detectors in 110 homes
  • Assisting 82 clients to access aids or adaptations to their properties
  • Increased the benefit entitlement of 14 clients

Care & Repair advice and information services are free of charge to all clients.

Where costs are applicable for repair or building works we will endeavour to provide advice and assistance in raising funds where possible.
