The Small Repairs Service was introduced in 2004 when it was recognised by Care & Repair that many elderly home owners were havening difficulty in securing the services of reputable trades-men to carry out small repairs within their homes. The cost of employing a reputable contractor also appeared to be disproportionately costly for the level of the works required.

Concerns had also been noted over an increase in “cowboy contractors” who carried out work which was often of a poor quality at an excessive cost.

The establishment of the Small Repairs Service has proved beneficial to many elderly people who have been assisted with small repairs in that it provides the client with access to a service that not only arranges a local contractor to carry out works on their behalf but in many cases there is no charge to the client.

The Small Repairs Service will consider any small household repairs from fixing faulty electrical sockets, door locks and loose floorboards, to replacing tap washers and replacing loose slates.
