Altonhill, Kilmarnock
The Association acquired this site from East Ayrshire Council on March 2006. This site has been designed to accommodate 94 units; 64 of which are for rent and 30 are for sale on a homestake basis.
Works commenced on site on 3 September 2007 with the successful contractor, Cruden Building & Renewals Ltd. The development will incorporate 4 wheelchair bungalows for clients with particular needs as well as 8 single storey amenity properties designed for the elderly. Clients have been identified for the majority of the specialist accommodation through early intervention by EAC’s Social Services Team.
A series of workshops were held in Hillhead Primary School to obtain the views of the local community in advance of the works commencing on site. This participation and true involvement helped to shape the design proposals for the project.
With regards the homestake accommodation, a marketing strategy has been developed and agreed in consultation with EAC and CS which outlines our approach for marketing the 30 units being offered for sale. Prices starting from £75,000 (based on a 60% share of a 2 bedroomed semi-detached house).
All completed properties will be handed back on a phased basis to the Association from July 2008.
The Association appointed the following Design Team for this project:
- Grant Murray Architects – Project Architects
- Thomas C. Stewart – Quantity Surveyors
- Cameron & Ross – Structural Engineers
- CDM (Scotland) Ltd – CDM Co-ordinator
