Radio City
Radio City
Healthy Living Centre in Kilbirnie is a significant regeneration infrastructure
project in the Garnock
Valley. Formerly a
derelict bingo hall, the physical regeneration of the site returned to productive
use a previously vacant property and encouraged the regeneration of Kilbirnie
Town Centre.
Over 5 years to 2003, CHA provided leadership to Radio City community steering committee to refurbish the former George Bingo Hall into an innovative £2.3m Healthy Living Centre. Acting as agents for the voluntary board, CHA brought together 14 local and national funding agencies by assembling the capital funding package and acting as project managers for the construction of the facility. The Radio City project was our first major venture into community regeneration and was crucial in providing us with the knowledge, networks and ultimately the credibility to extend our regeneration activities.
Radio City is now operated by Radio City Association and contains 1400 sq m of community facilities and business space including a community hall, gym, café, learning centre, office accommodation for small businesses, and space for a radio station and childcare centre.
