Challenge Poverty Week: Building Energy Efficient Homes

Warm Homes, Green Travel, Safe Climate – Building for the Future in Eastriggs

At our Eastriggs development, we’re creating warm, affordable, and climate-friendly homes. Every design choice has been made with both people and the planet in mind, ensuring that families can enjoy comfort while also keeping running costs low and protecting the environment.

The ‘Fabric First’ Approach

We are taking a  ‘fabric first’ approach where wee build homes that are well-insulated and airtight from the ground up. We’ve used high levels of insulation – 350mm thick in the roof space alone! This ensures that heat stays where it’s meant to be: inside your home. With less heat escaping, you’ll spend less on heating, while enjoying a cozier home.

Smart Heating for Smarter Living

Our homes come equipped with gas combi boilers that provide efficient heating and hot water on demand. We’ve also incorporated dual-zone heating. This system allows you to maintain different temperatures in various parts of your home. For example, you can keep your bedrooms cooler while making living spaces warm.

Low Running Costs, High Performance

In addition to a highly efficient heating system, every property is fitted with 2-4 photovoltaic panels on the roof, depending on the size of the home. These solar panels are directly connected to each property, allowing you to generate your own electricity during daylight hours. This means real savings on your energy bills especially when you use electricity during the day when the sun is (hopefully) shining!

Low Running Costs, High Performance

Thanks to these thoughtful design choices, our energy consultants have projected that each home in Eastriggs will achieve an impressive Energy Performance Certificate rating of B. To put this into perspective, our homes are estimated to have an annual gas and electricity cost of just £180 per year, on average.
