Emergency Alerts Test – Sunday 7 September 2025 at 3pm
On Sunday 7 September 2025 at 3pm, the UK Government will be carrying out a test of the Emergency Alerts system across Scotland and the rest of the UK.
If you have a mobile phone or tablet, you will receive a test alert. Your device will:
- Vibrate
- Make a loud, siren-like sound (even if it is on silent)
- Display a message confirming it is only a test and that no action is needed
This is part of a regular testing process to make sure the system works properly in case it is ever needed in a real-life emergency situation. Since the first national test of the system in April 2023, five alerts have been sent, including during major storms when lives were at risk.

Why Emergency Alerts Are Important
Emergency Alerts are designed to warn you if there is a life-threatening emergency near your area. They are sent directly by the government and emergency services only.
Keeping alerts switched on could help keep you and your family safe by giving you timely warnings about severe weather, fires, public safety issues, or other emergencies.
Can I Opt Out?
Yes – it is possible to opt out of Emergency Alerts, including this national test.
However, the Government strongly recommends keeping them switched on for your own safety.
