Energy Price Cap Increase: What It Means for Your Bills from October 2025

October 1: Energy Prices Going Up

From 1 October 2025, the Ofgem energy price cap will increase from £1,720 to £1,755 per year for a typical dual fuel household paying by Direct Debit.

This change will stay in place until 31 December 2025, when Ofgem will review and set the next cap.

What is the price cap?

The price cap isn’t a limit on your total bill — it’s a limit on how much suppliers can charge per unit of gas and electricity, plus the daily standing charge. Your bill still depends on how much energy you use.

Ofgem reviews the cap every three months to make sure charges reflect the wholesale energy market.

How much will bills rise?

  • Increase: 2% from October 1
  • Typical household rise: £2.93 per month (about £35.14 per year)
  • Compared with last year’s price cap (Oct–Dec 2024): bills are now 2.2% higher
