Your Guide to Cost-Free Activities for Kids During the School Holidays

Summer holidays are here — and we know keeping the kids entertained (without breaking the bank) can be a challenge. That’s why we’ve pulled together a list of fun, free and family-friendly events happening across North Ayrshire this summer.

Whether you’re looking for outdoor adventures, creative workshops or just a chance to cool down with a swim, there’s something for everyone — and it won’t cost a penny.

Free Swimming & Ice Skating with KA Leisure

KA Leisure is offering free swimming and ice skating sessions on selected dates this summer — including dedicated sessions for children and young people with Additional Support Needs (ASN).

Your local library is more than just books this summer! North Ayrshire libraries are hosting:

Kelburn Garden Party (3–7 July)

Fancy a family festival experience without the high cost?

  • Children under 5 go FREE

  • Heavily subsidised youth and kids’ tickets available

  • Set in the magical grounds of Kelburn Castle – live music, storytelling, crafts, and fun!

We Are Nature: Free Toddler Sessions at Eglinton Park (2 July – 13 August)

Join We Are Nature for free outdoor toddler sessions packed with sensory and creative activities in the beautiful setting of Eglinton Country Park.

🧺 Mud kitchens, bug hunts, nature crafts, and mindful moments in nature. These sessions are ideal for under-5s.

Kilwinning Library Summer Fun Day

Kilwinning Library are hosting a free Summer Fun Day on Tuesday 15th July!

🎨 Drop-in activities include arts & crafts, outdoor games, glitter tattoos, Lego, pancake making, and more.
🍌 Plus, don’t miss banana split making and Digi Dabble digital workshops — these need to be booked in advance.

Highland Games at Lochshore Park (2 August)

Hosted by the Garnock Valley Locality Team, this FREE event is open to young people aged 10+ — but everyone’s welcome!

Expect:

  • Mini Highland Games activities 🏋️‍♀️

  • Local groups and info stalls

  • Fun for all the family from 1–4pm at Lochshore Park
