Back to School: Extra Support for Families in North Ayrshire
Today is Financial Awareness Day — the perfect time to make sure you’re getting all the help you’re entitled to.
With schools returning on 20 August 2025, there are important changes to financial support for families in North Ayrshire.
If you have a young person in S1, S2, or S3 who was previously not eligible for free school meals, this may change. From the new school term, they will be eligible if you receive the Scottish Child Payment.
Make sure you’ve checked your support
If you meet the criteria, you could get help with:
- School clothing grant – to help cover the cost of uniforms
- Free school meals – now including eligible S1–S3 pupils if you receive Scottish Child Payment
- Transport costs – for eligible pupils who need help getting to school
- Childcare costs – support for working parents or carers who qualify

What to do next
- Check if you’re eligible by visiting you the NAC website or contacting the council.
- Apply as soon as possible to make sure everything is in place for the start of term.
