On Wednesday 7th December 2022 Alan Somerville, Senior Development Officer of Cunninghame Housing Association presented a cheque for £1,000 to Frank Davis, a voluntary Director of Annandale Community Transport Services.

Annandale Community Transport Services (ACTS) provides community transport throughout Annandale and Eskdale with their office based in Lockerbie. It was formed due to voluntary and community groups finding it difficult and expensive to provide specific transport for their users’ individual needs. Where transport was available, it could not always cater for the needs of people with disabilities, the elderly community and people living in outlying areas.

The ACTS is a registered charity which has been operating since 1999 and is currently run by a Board of voluntary Directors with employed staff members who run operations on a day-to-day basis. ACTS provides the following services: vital door to door transport to hospital appointments; minibus hires for community groups; a Travel Club providing days out for the elderly; 2 registered bus services for Carlisle and Peebles as well as providing minibus driver training for volunteers who wish to contribute to the service.

The funding provided by Cunninghame Housing Association is helping to provide all staff members with a uniform with the Service logo on it, which will help keep staff warm and make them more recognisable to members of the public who use the service.

“We are delighted to be supporting Annandale Community Transport who provide an invaluable service to the local community who may otherwise struggle in getting to vital appointments or amenities”.

Lesley Keenan, Chairperson of CHA

The funding for Annandale Community Transport Services came from the Associations “Making Our Communities Better Places Fund” which operates throughout the year (1st April to 31st March) until the allocated funding is exhausted.
