Cunninghame Housing Association Completes 74 New Homes in Eastriggs

Cunninghame Housing Association Celebrates Completion of Eastriggs Development

Cunninghame Housing Association has celebrated the completion of 74 new affordable homes in Eastriggs, marking a significant £16.3 million investment in Dumfries and Galloway.

Completed in April 2026, the development delivers a mix of high-quality two, three and four-bedroom family homes for social rent, alongside 20 amenity bungalows and a purpose-built wheelchair-accessible home. The project was supported by £11.4 million of Scottish Government Housing Association Grant funding.

The development addresses a recognised need for additional affordable housing in the area and forms part of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Strategic Housing Investment Plan. Cunninghame Housing Association acquired the site in 2018 and worked in partnership with its main contractor, Ashleigh Scotland Limited, and design partners Robert Potter & Partners, TCS Construction Consultants and Asher Associates to bring the project to completion.

An official completion event held on 19 August brought together project partners, stakeholders and community representatives to celebrate the successful delivery of the homes and the positive impact the development will have on the local area.

Commenting on the development, Shirley-Anne Somerville, Scottish Housing Secretary, said:

“These 74 new homes for social rent have been developed to meet local demand for a diverse range of households and, crucially, support the ongoing regeneration of Eastriggs, helping to boost population retention within the village and encourage wider growth across the region.”  – Shirley-Anne Somerville, Scottish Housing Secretary

Delivering Lasting Community Benefits

Beyond the provision of new homes, the development has generated a range of social and economic benefits for the local community.

More than 100 pupils from Eastriggs and Newington Primary Schools participated in STEM activities, site visits and design competitions linked to the project. Three apprenticeships were also created through the development, commencing July 2025.

The project also supported a number of local organisations and charities, including Apex Scotland, Eastriggs & Dornock Early Years, Mid Annandale FC, Newington Primary School as well as Cunninghame Housing Association’s festive tenant support programme.

The investment further strengthened local construction activity and regional supply chains, contributing to the wider economic sustainability of the area.

Reflecting on the completion of the development, Jacqueline Cameron, Group Chief Executive Officer of Cunninghame Housing Association, said

“Cunninghame Housing Association is incredibly proud to have delivered these high-quality new homes for social rent in Eastriggs, providing much-needed affordable housing for individuals and families within the community. This development represents the strength of partnership working, significant investment in the local area and a shared commitment to creating secure, sustainable homes where people can build their lives and communities can thrive.”Jacqueline Cameron, Group CEO of Cunninghame Housing Association

Supporting Inclusive and Sustainable Communities

The homes have been designed to meet a range of housing needs, supporting families, older people and those requiring accessible accommodation.

The inclusion of amenity and wheelchair-user bungalows promotes independent living and helps create a more inclusive community. Energy-efficient design features will help residents manage household costs while supporting environmental objectives and efforts to tackle fuel poverty.

The development forms part of Cunninghame Housing Association’s ongoing investment across Dumfries and Galloway. Since becoming active in the region as a registered social landlord development partner in 2017, the Association has delivered new-build homes in Annan, Lockerbie, Gretna, Dumfries and Eastriggs.

With the completion of Eastriggs, Cunninghame Housing Association has now delivered 501 new-build homes across Dumfries and Galloway.
