How we've helped people in your community
Mrs C’s husband had to take a leave of absence from work to care for his wife – they were going to be in the house constantly and would be using a lot more energy. They had prepayment meters for both the gas and the electric, faced with a period of being unable to pay for their energy costs during a time of poor health and at a time when the energy prices were already putting a strain on the household.
Lemon Aid applied to a fund to help with those upcoming costs. They were awarded £318 in fuel vouchers. This would assist them in topping up their meters during a time where they were struggling financially.
A lone parent working part time with 2 dependants. The client lived in an all electric property which is expensive to run. One of her dependents had a health condition which can be affected by the cold. Lemon Aid utilised the Home Heating advice fund; £950 in fuel vouchers was granted which helped with meter top ups.
I phoned Lemon Aid to ask for help topping up. They didn’t just do that they went further. They helped top up my meter and checked it with me to make sure the debt recovery rate was not an issue.
As it was higher than it could have been they advised on how to get this changed. This has helped with being able to afford my top ups each week. They also helped with a grant to help clear the debt, so I have more money each week for me and the kids.
With my Mental Health I had couldn’t face my debt with my supplier. It was over £1000 and growing each month and I felt like there was no way of making payments to what I was using never mind the debt. With Lemon Aid they made it all easy for me and explained everything clearly to me. They worked away dealing with the supplier for me to check the debt was correct then they helped me apply to the debt grant. I was lucky enough to get the grant which helped clear my debt. They also helped me get in touch with someone that helped with my benefits. I now have no energy debt and feel I have more money each month so can afford payments for my energy now.
