On Tuesday 19th April 2022 Janet Strang, Vice Chairperson of Cunninghame Housing Association presented a cheque for £1,200 to Alistair McBurnie, Calan Jaffrey and Alistair Ogilvie, Explorer Scouts of Kilwinning.

The 19th Ayrshire Scout Group is based in Kilwinning and has over 150 members, with ages ranging from 6 years to 18 years old. The group activity encourages all members to challenge themselves and try new opportunities. The group provides a programme of informal education with an emphasis on practical outdoor activities, including camping, woodcraft, aquatics, hiking, backpacking and sports suitable for all ages so no one is excluded.

Recently, 3 Explorer Scouts; Alistair McBurnie, Calan Jaffrey and Alistair Ogilvie have successfully been selected to attend the World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) in South Korea in 2023. The WSJ is an event which is held globally every 4 years and is a huge achievement for any young Explorer to be selected as it demonstrates their hard work and determination. The funding provided by Cunninghame Housing Association is supporting each of the 3 Explorers with the financial costs involved of the training camps they will be required to attend in preparation for the WSJ. The training camps are designed to build up the Scouts in a variety of areas such as: communication, team building, teamwork and lifeskills.

The funding for the 19th Explorer Unit came from the Associations “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund” which operates throughout the year (1st April 2021 to 31st March 2022) until the allocated funding is exhausted.

The Association are delighted to support Alistair, Calan and Alistair with their training camps which will prepare them prior to attending the WSJ in South Korea.  We wish them the best of luck and are sure it will prove to be an experience they will never forget.
