Cunninghame Housing Association (CHA) currently have 2 large key development sites in the town of Annan, both under construction and collectively providing 190 new affordable houses for rent when completed. The sites are in Hallmeadow and Windermere Road.
Hallmeadow was purchased by CHA from a local farmer and amounts to a sizable 12.5 acres of developable land. The sale was settled in December 2017 and the site will accommodate 130 new build homes for rent in the area when complete.
Ashleigh Ltd, the main contractor commenced works on site in June 2020 and as of August 2021, 24 of the 130 properties are now occupied by CHA tenants, including a specially adapted wheelchair bungalow. Due to the scale of this large development, the Association will complete and release properties on a phased basis until target completion date of September 2022.
A new main road connecting the existing streets of Hallmeadow Place and Elm Road is completed also with CHA’s new tenants using Hallmeadow Place to access their new homes; with the contractor using the Elm Road access for construction traffic. Locals will know that Elm Road was previously a single track road which has now been widened up to the CHA development site entrance and a new footpath is planned and will be formed over the remainder to improve road safety for pedestrians. A SUDS basin has been formed on site to manage surface water and this is now formed and functioning.
Windermere Road was purchased by CHA from the landowner in March 2018. The landowner is also a developer and will deliver the new houses as part of a Design & Build contract agreed with the Association and Anderson Joinery.
A total of 60 affordable new homes for rent will be delivered when the development is completed. Works commenced on this site in April 2019 and completion of the first phase of 22 units were released before March 2021.
As of mid-August 2021, 30 of the 60 properties were occupied by Association tenants. The overall development was split into two phases of development and the first phase, to the south, is now entirely complete.
A new through road which connects Turnberry Crescent to the south, and Windermere Road to the north is also nearing completion assisting the flow of traffic through this new development site.
