On Monday 11th April 2022 John Kelly, Chairperson of Cunninghame Housing Association presented a cheque for £1,000 to a group of young people who form part of Dance Mafia in Saltcoats.

Dance Mafia is a locally run dance studio based in Green Street in Saltcoats. The dance facility provides an excellent opportunity for local children on their doorstep. All local children who participate benefit from being fit and healthy by taking part in dance as well as having a positive impact on their mental health and wellbeing. The dance classes also teach children many lessons in life, such as teamwork, social networking and helps build their confidence.  Being part of the competition team comes at a cost and for some can prove a financial challenge therefore a group of parents have come together whose children are part of the competition teams in an aid to help raise funds to provide all parents and children a helping hand. Due to the group of parents fundraising, it helps provide every child, regardless of financial status the same opportunity as other teammates. It also gives the parents the ability to encourage more children to enrol when their families know there is financial support there. A group of the competition team have qualified to take part in the United Dance Organisation World Street Dance Championships competition in August in Blackpool.

The funding provided by Cunninghame Housing Association will support the financial costs involved to enable the team to attend the competition, assisting with travel, accommodation and costumes. Not only will the funding assist financially, but it will also ensure that the team continues to do what they love and help realise their dreams and support all of the hard work they do on a weekly basis.

The funding for Dance Mafia came from the Associations “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund” which operates throughout the year (1st April 2021 to 31st March 2022) until the allocated funding is exhausted.

The Association are delighted to support such a fantastic group of young people who are full of energy and quite clearly give 100% to their dancing whilst loving what they do. We wish them the best with their competition in August.
