On Wednesday 20th July 2022 both Frank Sweeney, Group Chief Executive and John Kelly, Chairperson of Cunninghame Housing Association presented a cheque for £1,000 to Christina Smith, Treasurer of the Ardeer Food Larder.

The Ardeer Food Larder has been running since August 2021, managed by 5 volunteers within Ardeer Community Centre based in Stevenston. The Food Larder is designed and advertised to top up families/individuals’ weekly shop. It provides people with dignity and respect who may be struggling financially.

Given the cost of living rising so sharply recently and looking likely to continue for some time to come, this has had a massive financial impact on people as well as covid, with people losing their jobs, reduced hours etc. The funding provided by Cunninghame Housing Association is supporting the Larder to stock up on essential items for members to purchase.

“We are pleased to be able to provide financial assistance to this voluntary group who work tirelessly in providing an essential service to the local community of Stevenston. The Association recognises times are tough for many and are delighted to support such a worthwhile project”.

JOHN KELLY, Chairperson, CHA

The funding for Ardeer Food Larder came from the Associations “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund” which operates throughout the year (1st April to 31st March) until the allocated funding is exhausted.
