On Wednesday 20th July 2022 both Frank Sweeney, Group Chief Executive and John Kelly, Chairperson of Cunninghame Housing Association presented a cheque for £1,000 to Chris McKenna, Secretary of Irvine Tennis Community.

The Irvine Tennis Community is a registered charity run by a voluntary committee made up of 7 members. They are in the process of taking over the tennis courts at Thornhouse Avenue with their vision of having the tennis courts thriving and being a big part of the community again – promoting tennis, fitness and social interaction in the local area.

The Club run various nights such as ladies, men’s, over 50’s walking tennis and young children coaching sessions with summer camps running over the school holidays.

At present they are planning to build a Clubhouse for members to access and enjoy and the funding provided by Cunninghame Housing Association will help fund the cost of this build. The clubhouse will be accessible to all members and will also serve as a storage area for equipment as well as providing toilet facilities.

“The Association recognises the financial assistance the voluntary group requires in helping build a Clubhouse for all members to enjoy. This will be of great benefit to all members, and it is great to see volunteers help bring the tennis alive again in Irvine whilst encouraging fitness and health outdoors.”

JOHN KELLY, Chairperson, CHA

The funding for Irvine Tennis Community came from the Associations “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund” which operates throughout the year (1st April to 31st March) until the allocated funding is exhausted.
