Alan Somerville, Senior Development Officer of Cunninghame Housing Association, presented a cheque for £1,000 to Niamh Kerr and Alisha McKinnel. They are coaches at the Dumfries Y Gymnastics Club, along with some young members.

Dumfries Y Gymnastics Club has been a registered charity in Dumfries since July 2017. The Club offers gymnastics to a wide audience of babies, young children and young adults. It is run by a volunteer committee and since opening in Dumfries they have created employment for young people. The Club’s Mission Statement is. Aiming to give a safe, nurturing environment for gymnasts of all ability, inspiring and helping them enjoy their chosen sport. As well as supporting their physical, mental and social development – Wish, Dream, Believe, Achieve”.

Given the success and popularity of the Club, theynow have a premises in the Silverlaw in Annan. It will give a gymnast training facility for people of Annan, Lockerbie and Gretna. This will benefit people living in rural areas giving them such a facility on their doorstep. This is a great opportunity and saves time and money for those having to travel further away. The funds by Cunninghame Housing Association will assist with the set-up costs of the new premises.

The funding came from the “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund”. It runs throughout the year (1st April 2021 to 31st March) until the funding is exhausted.

Cunninghame Housing Association are delighted to be supporting Dumfries Y Gymnastics Club setting up their new gym in Annan. This gives local people the chance to keep fit, improve their confidence as well as job opportunities

Frank Sweeney, CHA Group CEO

Thank you to Cunninghame Housing Association for their generous donation. This will help our gymnasts gain new skills and build confidence within their gymnastics and allow them to progress further”.
