On 10th November 2022 Alan Somerville, Senior Development Officer of Cunninghame Housing Association, presented a cheque for £1,000 to Russell Caskie, Secretary, Chris Jardine, First Team Manager and some young team members of Lochar Thistle Football Club.

Lochar Thistle Football Club was formed in 1969 providing football for the young people at Locharbriggs and Heathhall communities and is run by volunteers. The Club accommodates young people from the age of 5 to 17 years old whilst providing a pathway into the Club’s under 20’s and then onto their adult team. The Club is very much community orientated, providing opportunity for young people which is the main goal. The number of young people who use the Club is rising and as such are purchasing a new storage unit to accommodate new equipment that is needed.

The funding for Lochar Thistle Football Club came from the Associations “Making Our Communities a Better Place Fund” which operates throughout the year (1st April to 31st March) until the allocated funding is exhausted.

Lochar Thistle Football Club is a fantastic facility for the local community and beyond, providing a safe place for young people to take part in sport, build their confidence and be part of a local football team”.

Frank Sweeney, Group Chief Executive of CHA

On behalf of Lochar Thistle Football Club I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Cunninghame Housing Association for their generosity in the support of this grant donation which will enable the club to purchase a safe and secure storage unit for all training equipment which is essential for the club moving forward. The number of kids joining the club is increasing so more equipment is needed to keep up the standards the club have for providing for the youths of today through the pathway we have to adults’ football, which in turn makes it an environment in the local area that will make a difference to the kids and their families. Thanks for your support”.

Russell Caskie, Secretary Lochar Thistle
