Cunninghame Housing Association is working in partnership with North Ayrshire Council and the Scottish Government and have prepared proposals for the provision of 24 fully accessible new build flats for rent on the site at Green Street Saltcoats.
The proposed development will be delivered by Cunninghame Housing Association, with the project being designed by MAST Architects, Clancy Consulting Engineers, and MBLA Design (Landscape Architects).
The project will also involve the demolition of the existing building in order to deliver the new homes on the site.
The development will provide a total of 24 flatted dwellings within a three-storey new build block on the corner of Green Street and Vernon Street, in the centre of Saltcoats. The new flats are a mixture of one and two-bedroomed types designed for elderly-amenity residents, including a dedicated wheelchair-accessible dwelling, and lifts are provided for ease of access to all floors. Delivery of the new flats will also require the demolition of the existing building which currently occupies the site.
A landscaped amenity space is provided on the interior side of the site, containing service facilities as well as planting and seating for residents.
The development site is centrally located, and benefits from easy access to various forms of public transport – a bus stop is located immediately adjacent to the building on Vernon Street, whilst Saltcoats railway station lies directly opposite. This town centre location has also informed the level of parking provision proposed – a total of six spaces are to be created, including a dedicated wheelchair-accessible space.
