Work on the £3.58 million project started in April 2022. It was supported by £ 2.05 million of funding from Scottish Government and a £215,000 contribution from North Ayrshire Council.
The proposed development was delivered by Cunninghame Housing Association. The project being designed by MAST Architects, Clancy Consulting Engineers, and MBLA Design (Landscape Architects).
The project also involved the demolition of the old building in 2021 to deliver the new homes.
The development has a total of 24 flatted homes within a three-storey new build block. It is on the corner of Green Street and Vernon Street, in the centre of Saltcoats.
The new flats are a mixture of one and two-bedroomed types designed for elderly-amenity residents. It includes a dedicated wheelchair-accessible home, and lifts for easy access to all floors.

- 21 homes, 1 bedroom, 1 living room, suitable for 2 people
- 2 homes, 2 bedrooms, 1 living room, suitable for 4 people
- 1 home, 2 bedrooms, 1 living room, wheelchair accessible
A landscaped amenity space is on the interior side of the building. It contains service facilities as well as planting and seating for residents.
Sprinkler systems are in all apartments. Together with the highest standards of Secure by Design, should make a safe and secure environment for all.
The building is central, and benefits from easy access to various forms of public transport. A bus stop is found across from the building on Vernon Street. Saltcoats railway station lies directly opposite. This town centre has parking terms proposed – six spaces are to be made with a dedicated wheelchair-accessible space.
